You've heard that the South is known for its hospitality. We believe it may have taken a lesson or two from Springfield Bed and Breakfast.
The oldest part of this home was built between 1760 and 1790. Additions and necessary renovations have been made here and there, but the original bead board, doors, trim work, and fireplaces are proud to show guests what a home made with love looks like. It's exactly the kind of place adventurers and history-lovers dream of spending time in. On Friday morning, let Mrs. Mary cook a wonderful breakfast of locally-made sausage and eggs from the backyard.

A 15 minute drive will take you to The Nicholson House in Belvidere. This 200 year old Victorian-style home was originally built by Quakers. Current owners turned it into a restaurant, tea house, and gift shop that is a destination all on its own. Belvidere is also home to the final resting place of famed radio DJ, Wolfman Jack, extensive Quaker history, and a generational butcher and grocer, Layden's Supermarket. Here, not only can you watch sausage and beef ground right behind the counter, but also grab old fashioned candies, hoop cheese, molasses, and all of the old southern staples.
Back in Hertford, visit Perquimans County History Museum where you can be directed to the second oldest courthouse in the state, monuments and memorials, and stories of figures like Jimmy "Catfish" Hunter, Betsy Dowdy, and William Skinner. From there, be sure to visit the Union Soldiers Colored Troops Monument which is a stop on the African American Experience Tour as well as the NC Civil War Trail.
Speaking of trails, The Turtle Walk is a wonderful self-guided tour for historic homes in downtown Hertford! Finish up with visit to the oldest brick house in the state of NC, The Newbold-White House.
