A True Country Store

A visit to Layden's Country Store is like taking a step back in time.Alternate Text Wooden floors creak, the scent of cured meat is in the air, and the butcher greets you with a smile. Built in 1883 and originally known as the Josiah Nicholson Jr. Store and Post Office, the store was purchased in 1954 by Charles Layden and is operated today by his son, Doug. A centerpiece of Belvidere Rural Historic District, Layden's is known for its outstanding meats, hand-stuffed sausages and old-fashioned hoop cheese.
